Dear Educators, Homeschoolers, civic groups and Kids’ Clubs,
We would like to invite you and your students to join us at the
National Festival of the West for Kids Day, March 14, 2008. Free
admission is provided on Friday for you, your students, and
chaperones. This day is dedicated to having fun and teaching kids
more about the old west- the history, the romance and th e lore of the
old west. These are all important parts of the National Festival
of the West.
A standards based curriculum guide will be provided to all 4th Grade
Teachers with activities to enhance this day that will encompass up to
25 performance objectives from Arizona
State
Standards for 4th Grade. What a great way to meet so
many of the Social Studies Standards in one day of fun and
learning for
both the kids and the teachers. We encourage you to participate
in the T. Shannon
Crawford Memorial Cowboy
Poetry Contest for
4th graders. You will receive a lesson plan in your
curriculum
guide to help your students create rootin’ tootin’
poetry.
When you arrive at Rawhide, you will be provided with a map and guide
so that you can easily navigate your students to the numerous signed
stops on your tour. School field trips are recommended to attend
from 10:15-1:30, as we will have guides available for your
classes. Others are welcome anytime from 10:00am -8:00pm.
The National Festival of the West is a celebration of America’s history
and entertainment on Kids Day includes western music, cowboy poetry,
chuck wagon cooking, arena events, Buffalo Soldiers, Mountain Men and
women, period clothing, a Percheron draft team, and a performance by
the Grammy Award winners, Riders In The Sky.
